Danette is the owner and creative design artist of Short-Cakes. Her love for baking started when she was just a child. As an adult, she began educating herself through various online instructors, pastry chefs, and talent across the globe. She became the president of her local cake club (Sugar Belles of South Texas) to the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and found she had a heart for teaching those who wanted to learn more about the sugar arts. During her years as president, she brought in a lot of local and countrywide talent to help further educate her caking community. Danette currently sits on the Culinary Advisory Board of Directors for Texas State Technical College and helps oversee the direction of their culinary program. She was also an "Approved Teacher" in the ICES (International Cake Exploration Society) program. For seven years she operated her baking business serving the Rio Grande Valley. In the summer of 2018 she went back to college to finish her undergraduate degree in Biology and pursue medical school. She continues to share her creative processes in the sugar arts through her YouTube Channel and personal blog. In addition to her professional passions, Danette has a loving and supportive husband, Nathan Short, with whom she raises their five children with and homeschools.
